Walking past the subway turnstiles, a pal asked did you see that mother and child standing either side of the barriers?
In New York for 89 bucks a month you get unlimited rides. Actually they are limited in one way, you have to wait 18 minutes between swiping your card through the turnstiles. I've been caught out by this a few times.
In any case the mother and daughter were waiting 18 minutes until they could go on their way together.

Why 18 minutes? why not 12 or 23 or 15?
No idea whether it's arbitrary or whether there's some science behind it...
That's a cool image: the mother and child separated by the turnstile; standing, waiting. All the other passengers speeding around them.
Would make a good black and white photograph or painting.
mel, i think the thing that impressed me most was how the mother insisted on waiting. i suppose the kid could've easily ducked under the barrier with no one saying a word
