Laskar Pelangi

Just saw Laskar Pelangi (a movie about a school in Sumatra).

Unimpressed all in all. I still haven't seen a really good Indonesian movie.

I concur John. Recent releases are meant to be indie movie but alas it is just another form of soapies, which is inundated with melodrama action.

I dont think i can expect too much from recent Indonesian movies as they tend to put some good looking models (either with chinese background or mixed race of Indonesian and anglo) and awful plot.

citu, yeh. for a country which has so many great stories - stories true and tall - it's pretty amazing how indonesian directors fail to put them up on the big screen.

Have you seen "berbagi suami" ?

that's another one for the 'to watch' list!

The book was great. I guess the director couldn't capture the jest of the book.
